Domestic Discord

The site for this project is located at the Wharton House on Millstream Road, in Bermondsey by the train arches. My project provides a recreational space that pays tribute to the amenities that are a feature in the “rich” peoples domestic spaces. By shifting these characteristics with influences from Peter Eisenmen’s design of House X and placing it in a relatively working class area - it starts the discussion. Domestic spaces for the poor are unfair, spaces designed for them don’t receive the same opportunities as the rich. Even with affordability being a designing factor, spaces for the poor should be created with the intention of inclusivity. Characteristics that I identified to be for the rich are floor to ceiling windows, loads of natural sunlight and better materials.
