Re-imagining the Dirty Kitchen

The site for this project is located at the Story Garden, north from the British Library. My project re-imagines the outdoor kitchen as the critical architectural space that meaningfully connect people and nature in an intensely urban setting. Inspired by my Dad’s cooking habits to cook outside for his fellow nurse colleagues during lock down, and responding to the issue of food growing and food poverty in Somers Town, my project imagines dwellings sitting over a floating landscape of food production, organised around and navigated via a series of communal outdoor kitchens below the landscape, where storage space, mushroom growing and neighbourhood wide community rooms connect the idea of productive nature further into the wider urban habitat.
